Toshiba announces the Canvio Ready external Hard Drive

Toshiba - Portable Hard Drives - Canvio Ready

The new Canvio Ready offers up to 3 TB of storage capacity and
an easy plug-and-play design

25th, August 2015 – Toshiba today unveils the Canvio Ready, a new external hard disk drive (HDD). The latest addition to Toshiba’s popular Canvio HDD range – which already spans eight models – the Canvio Ready combines incredible storage space of up to 3 TB, with superfast transfer speeds and a portable design that means you can take your favourite files with you wherever you go.

The Canvio Ready is available in a range of storage capacities – from 500 GB through to 3 TB – so you can store up to 856,500 digital photos, 789,000 of your favourite music tracks, or 2,460 digital movies. Powered by USB 3.0 technology, the Canvio Ready offers incredibly quick transfer speeds of up to 5 Gbit/s for fast download or transfer of large files in short timeframes. It’s also compatible with USB 2.0 ports found on older hardware, so if you upgrade your laptop you will still be able to transfer your data to your new device. The simple plug-and-play operation also means you can instantly use the Canvio Ready with Microsoft Windows devices, without the need for additional software installation. Offering a reliable and robust way to back up and store data, the Canvio Ready features an internal shock sensor which safeguards your data. The Canvio Ready features a chic dot pattern and is so compact – it can be easily carried in a pocket or backpack, so you can take your files, photos, films and music with you wherever you go.

Arnaud Bonvarlet, General Manager, Storage Peripherals Division, Toshiba Europe said: “With the increasing amount of data we are producing during the course of our lives it’s important that consumers have reliable and speedy ways to store and transport their digital data. We’re always looking for new and innovative ways to evolve our hard drive range, to offer storage solutions that can be carried easily and accessed quickly on the go. As it is available in up to 3 TB but is compact in size the Canvio Ready is the perfect solution for those that need to carry lots of data with them and keep it secure as they go.”

The new Toshiba Canvio Ready will be available from mid-September.

[1] One Gigabyte (1GB) means 10 = 1,000,000,000 bytes and One Terabyte (1TB) means 10 = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes using powers of 10. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity 30 40 using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB= 2 = 1,073,741,824 bytes and 1TB = 2 = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system and other factors.
[2] Tested by Toshiba under the specific test settings at the time of publication and is not an estimate of the number of photographs, minutes of video or hours of audio that can be stored under any conditions other than the specific test settings. Music storage based on 128 Kbps, 11:1 compression with an average song length of 4 min. Photo storage based on 6 MegaPixel digital camera using JPEG compression, average photo size 3.5 MB/Photo. Movie storage based on 13.5 MB/Minute @ 90min, typical iTunes® download at 1800 kbps. The amount of data needed to record still pictures and movies differs depending on the device used, the subject photographed, and the shooting conditions. These variables, among others, may increase or decrease the number of pictures and/or movies that can be stored. Your results may vary.
